Reflection Question 1

Do I work to alter the learning conditions at my school? If so, how and why? If not, how can I begin?”

Senge et al.(2012) explained “the altering of learning conditions is the way in which teachers define their role in broader context of the school” (p.337).  Additionally, as a teacher, I know it is my job to make students feel safe and secure. Also, I promote a  conducive learning environment physically by designing the classroom for all students with and without disabilities. I also make sure my students feel comfortable talking with me sharing emotions. School can be stressful at any age, which is why students need a positive emotional environment that supports their educational goals.

Reflection Question 2

Do I inquire about the ends of school or just the means? If so, how and why not or how can I begin?

According to Senge et al (2012) there is a great difference between (ends and means). Means are the ways in which students practice and apply those concepts in order to attain those end goals- that new knowledge and skill they need to continue to grow as an artist; Ends are the achievement of the goals. As a teachers, I make sure my students have goals which are measurable. With those goals, they also know they must have the academic skills to go with any goal. For example, If you want to go to school to be a Welder, you must know how to read and you must know numbers.

Reflection Question 3

Do I engage in continuous inquiry? If so, how and why not or how can I begin?

According to Senge et al. (2012), “Inquiry is thoughtful reflective and informed deliberation about ones practice” (p.338). As a teacher, I constantly allow my students to use their cognitive skills. My inquiry goes beyond the question which is asked. Learning is about making real world connections allowing students to use higher order thinking skills.

Reflection Question 4

To what extent am I encouraged to participate in pedagogical matters about the school or how teaching and learning can be aligned with the school’s vision?

Senge et al. (2012) focuses on the problems that are most difficult to solve and the mental models today’s leaders need in order to build a smarter planet” (p.445). As a teacher, I am committed to collaborating with teachers in the building to make sure students are getting the quality learning skills that is needed to promote them to the next grade. I also attend off campus workshops and PLCs during school days.

Reflection Question 5

To what extent do the school’s culture support me as an inquirer or how I can do better?

Culture is a vital aspect of creating a positive and supportive environment that fosters growth and success. By prioritizing a positive culture, schools and companies can create a space where students and employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. During the school year, my co-workers and I share ideas especially during certain holidays as school themes. We also share resources to help student and teachers who are from other countries.

Reflection Question 6

To what extent do I engage to improve the school’s outcomes?

Senge (2012) said, “school districts that are meeting this challenge through such strategies as systems thinking, education for sustainability, learner‐centered pedagogy, and building schools as learning communities. Bold leadership is needed from teachers, administrators, principals, parents, school boards, business/civic leaders, and the students themselves” (p.232). As a teacher, during testing I do one on one sessions with students making sure they understand the concepts. I also invite speakers in for students’ day or parents to share their culture with students. Additionally, when I see a faulty light, I report it to maintenance. Even if there are problems with the air.

Reflection Question 7

To what extent do I care about myself and others the same way I should care about students?

My concern for my students is shared more so than my co-workers. My students are like babies to me, they only can get what is given to them. As a provider, I make sure my students receive the best care in education, health care, and social skills. I make sure each student understand the concept of the lesson by making them feel comfortable to ask questions. If I’m not feeling my best, I cannot learn; same goes for my students. I will send them to the school nurse. Also, we share thoughts about things going on in the world. As a teacher, I know there is only so much information I can share, but I make sure they know the truth.
