The CMS Measures inventory tool contains numerous measures of healthcare performance. In this project, students will become familiar with the resources available on the website and use those resources to identify measures that can be used to evaluate specific aspects of performance.
Project Instructions
Imagine you have been hired as quality director, a newly added position in an orthopedic outpatient clinic. The office manager asks you to select evidence-based performance measures that can be used to judge the quality of patient care provided by clinic physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical staff. You know that performance should be evaluated in four categories:
· Structure • Process • Outcome • Patient experience

Because the orthopedic clinic is just starting to measure performance, you don’t want to overwhelm them with too many different measures. So you decide to select one structure measure, two process measures, two outcome measures, and one patient experience measure. If you are unfamiliar with orthopedic conditions or the type of patients seen in an orthopedic clinic, do some research on the Internet.
