Purpose:
This assessment evaluates your ability to manage, analyse, and graph data using R in a reproducible and concise format. You will demonstrate practical data handling, statistical reasoning, and graphical representation skills using R code aligned with course modules.
Scenario: You as a Research Assistant
You are working as a research assistant on a fictional study evaluating the effectiveness of various exposure therapies combined with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) in treating anxiety disorders. Your task is to complete data tidying and initial analysis in R.
You will use a dataset and answer a series of short-answer questions, including writing R code to support your answers.
Assessment Requirements:
- Submit a text document (.doc or .docx) via MyUni
- Use the Assessment 1 submission template provided
- Follow APA 7th edition for in-text statistics and tables (not graphs)
- Only use R functions covered in course modules
- Quality over quantity: responses should be clear and concise
- Include R code and outputs as part of your answers
- You may use the RData file provided for reference or troubleshooting
Learning Outcome Assessed:
- Adapt quantitative analysis and data management skills to different software packages (R, in this case)
The Study Overview:
- Aim: Compare the effectiveness of VR, imaginal, and in-vivo exposure therapy approaches.
- All participants received 8 weeks of CBT combined with one of the above exposure types.
- Diagnoses included specific phobias and PTSD.
- Measurements were taken at pre-treatment, post-treatment, and a 12-month follow-up
