What were the most significant consequences of expanded trade and travel in Afro-Eurasia from 900-1500 CE? How and to what extent did these interactions shape individual cultures?
War has an indelible impact on the world during the first centuries of the common era’s second millennium. How and in what ways did war and warfare shape political and cultural realities for people from 900-1500 CE?
Part II: Chose one of the three prompts below and compose an essay per the instructions above. (15 Points)
One recurrent theme during this semester has been the interaction of two (or more) civilizations. Sometimes that takes the form of a “clash” of civilizations and sometimes, those cultures form real and meaningful forms of exchange. Pick one example of the encounter between two civilizations and discuss the impact that connection had on each society, including the impact that interaction had on the development of new cultural forms.
Compare and contrast three imperial regimes (societies engaged in the practice of empire) from this semester. How did the regime gain and maintain power? How were systems of power designed and implemented? How did individuals within each society relate to those systems of power?
