Short description: 2000-word report based on a case study exploring life stages, identified needs, challenges, and a theory-based approach to support the individual.

Weighting: 60%

Assessment guidance Students can choose from a range of case studies learned throughout the course; they will summarise the case study and the people in the case study; they will analyse the life stages, needs and challenges of one person in the case study, applying appropriate developmental theory. They will use a theoretical model to develop a practice-based approach to the case study and provide a rationale for their approach.

The assessment will take the form of a 2000-word report, including a reference list using the Harvard referencing format (list not included in the word count). The report will be uploaded to a submission folder that uses Turnitin plagiarism detection software.

Marking Criteria Students will be marked on their ability to meet the following learning outcomes:

Analyse factors that affect human growth and development from a biological, psychological and social perspective – 30% Examine theories of human growth and development relevant to health and social care practice – 30% Relate your understanding of human growth and development to current concepts of effective health and social care practice, such as person-centred care, strength-based approaches and co-production – 30% 10% of the overall mark will also be based on the report structure, organisation and referencing accuracy. Rationale for this Assessment Method This assessment is intended to facilitate students’ understanding of the developmental life stages and how these relate to practice. Students will be encouraged to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to formulate strategies and approaches to responding to simulated real-life situations.
