The developmental stage of adolescence is so unique because everyone experiences it in different ways. It is very interesting to learn about the trends and environmental influences that play a role in puberty. I never knew that not having a father figure in one’s home can lead to an early start on puberty compared to others who do have a father figure in their home. It is also very interesting to learn about the sleep trend within early/middle/and late adolescence, and how “making up” sleep on the weekends can make it even harder to wake up during the week. I also was surprised by the social aspects of puberty, and how being early/late bloomers can affect one’s social life significantly. I personally was a late bloomer, I was very active and thin, which I now know most likely played a role in my delay of puberty. I think it is essential that we use this information for the better and assist our loved ones who are going through this emotionally vulnerable time of change.
