The purpose of the final literary analysis is to demonstrate your ability to synthesize information into an in-depth analysis of two works by two authors from the course syllabus, or multiple texts by a single author. Select option A or option B from below:
(Option B): In this assignment, you will focus on one author and analyze at least two of their works. For example, you could provide an in-depth discussion and analysis of two or three poems by Maya Angelou.

A literary critical analysis explains a work of fiction, poetry or drama by means of interpretations. The goal of a literary analysis (as with any other analysis) is to broaden and deepen your understanding of a work of literature. Interpretations are developed by an in-depth examination of a text. An interpretation often will be the thesis of your paper. To help you organize your paper, please review the Elements of Fiction and Poetry powerpoint lectures, as well as reading Chapter 28 in your online textbook.
To approach this assignment, focus on the core cultural themes of the course: gender, racism, multicultural identity, etc. and other areas of cultural context. For example, in looking at a poem by one of the poets, you could ask: How does the poem you are looking at relate to the historical context in which it was written? For example, what’s the cultural significance of one of the writer’s main themes? These questions may take you out of the literature section of your library altogether and involve finding out about philosophy, history, religion, economics, music, or the visual arts. Include enough relevant biographical information about the writer to create a context for your analysis. Length: The length of the paper is between 4-6 pages (1000-1500 word), double-spaced, MLA formatted throughout.
Sources and quotations. You must include support from at least two critical articles from peer-reviewed literary journals accessed from the Palm Beach online library, google scholar, or any verified .org or .edu websites.
