Purpose

Welcome to the Week 1 Collaboration Café. In this week’s discussion, you will collaborate with your classmates by reflecting on the history of the social work profession.

Please note that Collaboration Cafés are student-driven discussions and may have limited faculty involvement and guidance. You are not required to respond to faculty posts; however, you are certainly permitted to do so if desired. The focus of Collaboration Cafés is student engagement and peer-to-peer dialogue.

Course Outcomes

This discussion provides documentation of student ability to meet the following course outcomes:

  • CO 3: Know the history of the social work profession (Competency 1).
  • CO 4: Reflect on the exclusion of BIPOC scholars/change agents from the history of social work practice (Competency 3).

Due Date

You are required to post a minimum of three times in each small group discussion. You must respond to the initial discussion question after 12:01 a.m. Mountain Time on Monday in Week 1, but before 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday of Week 1. Response posts must be submitted after Wednesday of Week 1, but before 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on Sunday in Week 1.

Requirements

  1. Review the Course Syllabus on participation in graded discussions, small group discussions, and collaboration cafés. Aim to create a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and perspectives. It is important for all students to be seen and heard.
  2. Include in-text citations for all sources used to support your initial post.
  3. Please provide thorough and reflective responses to at least two peers. This will not only help you articulate your points but also assist your peers in understanding different viewpoints and insights.
  4. Review the discussion grading rubric by clicking the Options icon (three dots in the upper-right-hand corner of this Canvas page) and selecting the Show Rubric button. You can see the evaluation criteria and points associated for each criterion.

Please describe your rationale for this recommendation.
