Assignment Overview:

This project challenges you to analyze and interpret real-world revenue data from two of the world’s leading luxury companies. You will apply descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and business research to uncover how different global events impacted their financial performance. This project bridges data analysis with market realities, empowering you to make strategic observations and recommendations.

Learning Outcomes:

By completing this project, students will learn to apply descriptive statistical techniques and use Excel to analyze and visualize real-world financial data.

They will compare two leading luxury brands, calculate correlations, and interpret how external events influence revenue trends.

The project enhances students’ ability to connect data with market realities through research and critical thinking. Ultimately, students will develop analytical reporting skills and a deeper understanding of strategic decision-making in the luxury industry.

A total of 2500 words for the research part.

Assessment Tasks

❖ Instructions:
1. Choose any two companies from the following luxury groups:
-LVMH
– Kering (Gucci, Balenciaga, etc.)
– Hermès
– Richemont (Cartier, Montblanc, etc.) – Burberry
2. A brief section on the history of both companies, highlighting their origins, core brands, and position in the luxury industry.
3. Collect annual revenue data (in € or $ million) for both companies from 2008 to 2024.
4. Using Excel, calculate for each company:
– Mean
– Median
– Mode
– Variance
– Standard Deviation
– Skewness
5. Plot the revenue trends of both companies on a chart
6. Calculate the correlation between their revenues using Excel’s CORREL function.
7. Identify years where a significant change in revenue occurred. Research what happened during that year (e.g., COVID-19, market trends, product launches, scandals, geopolitical events).

❖ General Formatting Issues for the Report Document

While preparing the report, the following formatting issues should be considered:

1. The project report should be of A4 size, on white paper, and one side only.
2. The typed text should be black.
3. The page margins should be as follows: 1” (2.5 cm) on all sides (top, bottom, left, and right) of each page.
4. “Times New Roman” should be used as the font style.
5. The font size for titles should be 16 (all caps).
6. The font size for subtitles should be 14.
7. The font size for body text should be 12.
8. Double-spacing should be adopted for typing text paragraphs.
9. The paragraph indentation should be 5-7 spaces.
10. The subtitles should be numbered.
11. The page numbers should be inserted on every page (except figures) in the upper right margin, 0.5” from the top, and flush with the right margin, two or three words of the project title appear five spaces to the left of the page number.
