They will compare and contrast the cognitive, linguistic, and socio-cultural challenges and benefits associated with being raised in a multilingual environment (ULO1, ULO2). Pre-service teachers will discuss the implications of multilingualism for early childhood education, including strategies for supporting language development and learning success among multilingual learners (ULO2, ULO4, ULO3). |

You are required to a) Provide a critical review of relevant theoretical perspectives on multilingualism in early childhood, drawing on theories such as social interactionist, cognitive development, ecological systems theories and other theories that link with second language development. b) Compare and contrast the cognitive, linguistic, and socio-cultural challenges and benefits associated with being raised in a multilingual environment. c) Discuss the implications of multilingualism for early childhood education, including strategies for supporting language development and learning success among multilingual learners, including those whose language backgrounds include those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. |
