Transforming Learning Within Political Forces

Education in the United States of America has been subject to many changes because of politics. Political leaders are being motivated by special interests that contributed money to their campaigns. They have forced on the American people that their view on education is the best that will improve student learning. They are motivated by a political group who are pushing their agenda in education to benefit themselves. They are only looking at their interest, not the students. Senge (2012) stated that schools are not exempt from politicians’ involvement in their curriculum. They are always forcing changes upon the education system.

 Political Forces and Stakeholder Groups

Klein (2015) reported that President George Bush signed the No Child Left behind Act (NCLB) in 2002 to test students from grades 3 through 12 in Reading and Math and report the state’s results. If they did not meet the state standards for three years, the state would be in charge of their local schools’ learning program. In the summer of 2009, President Obama has enacted the Race to the Top law associated with Common Core standards. This law was to enhance the quality of students’ knowledge in Math and science and prepare them for the world of business.

Political Issue Within the Organization

Every year, in Miami Dade County Public Schools, teachers are presented with a Pacing guide that they should follow at a Glance Academic Support from the District. They don’t have a chance to structure the concepts, elaborate on procedures that constitute the knowledge that would help present the ideas in the depth of understanding. Teachers don’t have the latitude to locate the outcome indicators in the content areas of English, Science, and Math. The administration has an approach that is embedded in a hierarchical non-reciprocal relationship. The teacher is not free to express himself in teaching. The teacher has to do one thing is to have them score excellently in standardized tests regardless of the conditions in the classroom environment. Teachers do not have a chance to develop the “criterion-referenced test or teacher-made test, which is quite the best judgment for the teacher to evaluate students’ learning skills.

Strategies Implemented Despite Political Forces

English (2010) stated that children are not the means to obtain better test scores. Instead, children are the ends of what education is about in the first place. The teacher must have greater control over instruction and prepare to prepare students for the assessment. A teacher can write instructional units that highlight particular learning goals established by the District and create tests to demonstrate students’ knowledge of various topics. The school’s administrator must take some steps to develop a collaborative planning session among teachers to discuss every week alternative instructions of teaching and learning. There could be strategies to pull out students of the lowest 25% during the day to enhance their fundamentals in their respective learning subjects. The school will add an E-learning program using Canvas or Microsoft Teams’ virtual platform as additional services to reinforce students’ learning. As a school, teachers need to adjust their teachings to excel academically regardless of politics.
